Program Underwriting

Underwriting virtual programming at The Commonwealth Club is a unique partnership opportunity. We offer tailored options—from individual programs to bespoke program series or any combination of underwriting packages—that align with your business or grantmaking goals. Partnerships of this nature allow the Club to continue producing critical programming that facilitates civic engagement and direct action around society’s most pressing issues.

As the nation’s oldest and largest public affairs forum, The Commonwealth Club is uniquely adept to play a role in keeping the community informed and connected during these unprecedented times. In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, the Club pivoted to a fully virtual model. While the world waits for in-person gatherings to resume, the Club continues to bring important conversations to our growing audience base via our robust distribution channels. We are supported by more than 170,000 subscribers and more than 1 million monthly online viewers via YouTube, Facebook Live, and other social media. The Club's weekly radio broadcast—the oldest in the United States, dating back to 1924—is carried across the nation on more than 230 public and commercial radio stations. These programs are widely available in perpetuity via video broadcast and podcast, with over 6 million annual listeners. Our website archive features recordings of our dynamic recent programs, as well as selected speeches from our long and distinguished history.

Program Outcomes

  • Reach 250–1,500+ real time viewers per program via YouTube and Facebook live streaming.
  • Reach 2,000–10,000+ total viewers via YouTube and Facebook.
  • Reach 7,000–10,000 podcast listeners per program within 60 days and thousands more via radio. Radio broadcast at the editorial discretion of The Commonwealth Club and our partner radio stations (KQED, KALW, etc.)
  • Produce audio and video recordings of each program that will exist in perpetuity. Option to keep underwriter’s recognition intact, depending on level of support.

Program Format & Technology

  • Virtual programs are 65-minutes long, conducted using Zoom technology, and broadcast via The Commonwealth Club’s YouTube and Facebook Live channels.
  • Underwriters of custom programming are invited to have an executive deliver introductory remarks live via Zoom or to record their message in advance.
  • Panels consist of a 2-person dialogue or a maximum of 5 panelists (includes a moderator), depending on the underwriting level.
  • The Commonwealth Club audio and video team manages all technical requirements and remains available for any AV-related questions.
