Reading Californians Book Discussion: 'California Against the Sea'

Several years ago we had Mark Arax speak about California's plight with its water situation. This month we have the winner of the California Book Awards medal in Californiana, Rosanna Xia. She will speak about the other water problem: rising tides and how they affect the California coastline. Her book is entitled California Against the Sea: Visions for our Vanishing Coastline.

Between people's interest in saving their waterfront homes and the global weather/ecological situation, how do we decide which is more important? How do we do a "managed retreat"? Or do we just keep building seawalls and try to forestall the inevitable? All of these subjects are discussed in her book and we look forward to talking with her about her research and how the great state of California is going to deal with the problem.

This program will be held in Zoom; registrants will receive a link to the Zoom program.
