THE COMMONWEALTH CLUB OF CALIFORNIA
Presents Bay Area Marine Artist Laurie Chase:
Bringing International Maritime Flavor to the Commonwealth Club
(San Francisco, CA, Nov. 12, 2014) - Coastal landscapes from California to the Mediterranean, Aegean, Adriatic, Caribbean, Black Sea and Mexico shores highlight the realistic images on canvas and paper of Bay Area realist Laurie Chase which are being exhibited at the Commonwealth Club gallery, now through January, 9, 2015.
Chase’s show, “Coastal Reflections,” focuses on marine and landscape subjects, chronicling, harbors, working fishing boats, and countryside and coastline communities she has visited in her travels. Her vision is to capture the simple, untarnished ambience and character of each region.
Lynn Curtis who has voluntarily curated the Club’s art exhibits for the past 7 years, observed, “It continues to be such a treat and honor to recognize and display the works of so many of our talent pool of pool here in the Bay Area. From our watercolor paintings, to our printmaking media, there is not enough room to showcase the brilliant works of which we have so much right here in our own backyard. I constantly surprised by the overwhelming interest in the works the Club highlights, not only from artists who wish to display their pieces, here, but from the hundreds of art enthusiasts who visit the Club.
From translucent skies mirrored in a sheltered Mediterranean harbor, to a weatherworn, brightly painted fishing boat bobbing in a Caribbean surge, her coastal compositions recall the heritage of a bygone era, while recording a culturally colorful seaside odyssey.
“Beach and harbor subject matter is naturally beautiful and every location along the world’s varied coastal areas is colorful and different,” states Laurie.” My paintings are the result of a combination of travel, fine art photography, and then the painting itself –combinations of beach umbrellas, sailboats, weathered hulls, and reflections in the water. I am entranced by the colorful architecture, the foliage and old world charm of each continent.”
Chase has showcased her work in one-woman exhibitions in the United States, Europe, and Mexico and has gallery affiliations throughout the US and Mexico. Her paintings can be found in the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, MX and aboard most of Princess Cruise Line’s passenger ships both in their permanent public collections, staterooms, and for sale in their galleries-at-sea.
Chase has been “artist-in-residence” at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, CA, and a signature artist for the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, MX. Recently she won “Best of Show” at the Ventura County Maritime Museum’s “Aqueous III exhibition featuring juried paintings of the American Society of Marine Artists of which she is a signature member. Her work was selected to participate in nine maritime exhibitions with prestigious east coast museums through the end of 2013. Laurie is a resident of San Francisco.
