Game Change: Chris Lehane and Steve Schmidt
Game Change: Chris Lehane and Steve Schmidt
Chris Lehane, Partner and Political Strategist, Fabiani & Lehane; Former political consultant for Bill Clinton
Steve Schmidt, Vice Chair, Edelman; Former senior campaign strategist for Senator John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign
Democratic strategist Chris Lehane and Republican operative Steve Schmidt will sit down for a candid conversation about bridging the bitter partisan divide over how to grow America’s economy without frying the planet. Lehane worked in the Clinton-Gore White House, where he wrote a memo that was the origin of Hillary Clinton’s statement about a “vast right wing conspiracy.” In California he led efforts to defeat Proposition 23, an attempt to suspend the state’s landmark climate change law known as AB 32. He also led the successful campaign for Proposition 39, which created funding for clean technologies.Schmidt served as communications advisor to President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney and ran the “war room” for their 2004 re-election campaign. He later left the White House to become the campaign manager in the re-election campaign for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2008 he ran the daily operations of John McCain’s presidential campaign, and was played by Woody Harrelson in the HBO film Game Change.
